Logistics and e-commerce
Welcome to Jönköping County, situated in the heart of Scandinavia. A unique location generating energy to business as well as cultural and leisure activities. The region is a natural hub and a central point between the major city areas of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. It's a location brimming with potential energy.
The roads, railways and airport here make this an excellent location for logistics and the transportation of goods and people. 80% of Sweden’s population lives within a radius of 350 kilometers and the Norwegian, Danish and Finnish markets are just a few hours away. That's the reason why the logistics operations of many major commercial businesses are centered here.
Scores of manufacturing companies also establish their businesses here because of the proximity to sub-contractors and markets. Logistics and transport activities also put the spotlight on the environment and the transition to a sustainable transportation system. Investment in rail is essential to reduce the amount of heavy traffic on roads and emissions of greenhouse gases. There are intermodal terminals at Båramo, Torsvik and Nässjö, among other places, where goods are moved efficiently from rail to smaller distribution lorries and vice versa. An environmental win-win for everyone.
When combining logistics and e-commerce we increase the attractiveness of the region from an establishment and investor perspective. We also enable a breeding ground for the development of new e-commerce and logistics services. This will in turn create more companies in the knowledge-intensive service sector and stimulate existing companies to move against more knowledge-intensive service content.
Jönköping Airport is one of the busiest airports in Sweden - during the night. Cargo flights represent the bulk of the activity at the airport, making use of its optimal location at the heart of Scandinavia. Goods with exacting delivery requirements are flown straight to and from the region. The airport is operated as a local authority company and has a customised cargo terminal that facilitates trans-shipment to other modes of transport. There are regular daily flights and the number of charter flights is also being increased, with direct connections to warmer destinations.
The region will in the future get a new high-speed rail between Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg. Jönköping, the central city in the region, would become one of the rail hubs. The socio-economic gains would be considerable and would open up opportunities in the job and housing markets. Furthermore, a completely new rail system will release the present main line for increased freight capacity and regional trains. Bringing benefits to the environment and local people!
